Introduction:
Clinical Pharmacy is one of the specialized pharmaceutical fields that is active in the field of pharmacotherapy at the bedside of the patients. The most important mission of this discipline is to promote rational use of medications and helping to improve therapeutic outcome of the patients. Experts in this field also manage or implement research and clinical projects related to drug therapy. Services of clinical pharmacy are for both inpatients and outpatients, reviewing the current and past drug regimens, monitoring the treatment, as well as potential drug-related problems.
The Department of Clinical Pharmacy was officially established in Ahvaz Pharmacy School in 2015. Prior to that date, since 2007, members of this department have been collaborating with the School to provide therapeutics course.

Educational activities:
- Providing training classes in new fields of medicine and treatment, drug complications and medical errors
- Preparing patient and staff education contents
- Establishing the skill lab model pharmacy
Research activities: - Drug monitoring, patient education studies
- Clinical trial studies
- Drug use evaluation studies
- Clinical pharmacokinetics studies
Pharmacotherapy services:
- Drug monitoring in patients with specific conditions –(renal failure, liver failure, obesity, shock, etc.)
- Active presence in the rounds, morning reports, CPCs and Journal clubs (direct consultation in the rounds)
-Pharmacotherapy consultation
-Patient education
- Therapeutic drug monitoring
- Providing advice on drug-food interactions
- Tracking Drug Side Effects
-Preparation and Consultation on the use of total intravenous and edible solutions -TPN, EF)
-Control of the prescribing, administration, and preservation of drugs in the wards in order to avoid medication errors
- Emergency trolley control in ward
- Monitoring the Clean Room activity in the wards and their products
- Participation in pain control, infection control, Drug therapeutics committees
- Consultation in anti-coagulant, pain, asthma, diabetes, transplantation clinics
- Providing a guidance to nursing staff and patients on the correct methods of drug use
- Participation in the formulary preparation of the hospital
-Helping the drug poisoning information centers
- DUE studies
- Participation in the design of advanced drug distribution systems in the hospital to reduce drug errors and misfits
-Establishment of MTM clinics in educational pharmacies
